Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Dunn is 6 feet 6 inches and weighs 287 pounds. He weighs 44 more pounds than Tony Gonzalez of the Atlanta Falcons, so calling him a tight end is putting it lightly. He is essentially an offensive lineman playing baseball. Saying that, I don't necessarily like his chances hanging at first base, and I especially don't like his chances roaming the outfield 162 games per season as he moves into his 30s. Now he'll get to play DH. Over his career, Dunn has only 59 at-bats as a DH, but has a higher OPS and batting average at that spot than any other position.
Skeptics Say: Last season Dunn had a career best .329 BABIP, but his line drive rate was below his career average. He also had a career worse 35.7% strikeout rate (second worst in all of baseball). The fact that Dunn hit .260 last year is a mini miracle. Going by his career BABIP and line drive rate numbers, Dunn should have hit closer to .240 last year.>
>
Dunn also is not an everyday guy. Against lefties last year he hit just .199 and for his career his OPS is 124 points lower against south paws.
>
>
Projection: One loop hole to keep in mind with Dunn is that if you are in a league that replaces average with OPS, his value skyrockets, but usually the league's default rankings don't adjust.>
