Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Chone Figgins is on this countdown because he stole 42 bases last year. He led all second basemen in that category by a whopping 18 steals. Given that there was only one second baseman who hit more than 30 home runs and just two that drove in 100 runs, the position was not a highly productive one a season ago. As a guy that has stolen more than 40 in five of the last six seasons, Figgins is almost guaranteed production at a position that is sometimes hard to find production from.
In two of the last four seasons, Figgins has led the league in caught stealing. Last year he was caught 15 times - third most in baseball. At 33, it's not likely the caught stealing numbers will come down unless the stolen base attempts do too. And if he isn't stealing, he isn't helping. Failing to reach the 30 home run and 100 RBI plateaus is one thing, but Figgins' 35 RBI and 1 home run are a huge constraint. It's as bad as Carlos Pena's batting average.
Projection: It wasn't a great first year, but Figgins did hit .286 in the second half. Look for a bump in runs with a possible trade to a contender.
