Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Key Stats: Before he got hurt last year, Dustin Pedroia was on pace for career highs in home runs, RBI, and walks. He was also on pace to finish with more than 100 runs and 20 steals for the third straight season. Plus he was in the midst of a torrid 14 game stretch in June in which he was hitting .491 with a 1.397 OPS. Who knows how much longer that could have continued, and how much that would have brought up his overall average and OPS.
Skeptics Say: Pedroia started the very first insignificant game of the year against a college team, so that should tell you where he and the Red Sox are in terms of his recovery from a broken foot. Health isn't that great of a concern. Going back to last year's numbers, what is a little more concerning was the spike in home run to fly ball rate. Pedroia's rate was nearly double what it had been the season before. In other words, it's unlikely he would have gotten to that 25+ home run territory if he had stayed healthy last year.
Projection: If second base wasn't as deep as it is this season, I could easily see moving Pedroia up another 10 spots.
114 R 16 HR 70 RBI 19 SB .309 AVG .855 OPS
