Suite 101 Fantasy Baseball Says:
Wood is certainly a sleeper here, because he does need a strong spring training to secure a rotation spot. However, he is a ground ball pitcher that does have the ability to strike out hitters (7.53 k/9). That is an excellent combination for a starter, especially in Cincinnati. Wood also is very hard to homer against. His stuff is fringy (he only gets his fastball to the upper 80s), so he needs excellent command (3.31 k/bb ratio) to survive. His stuff is not that good, and that makes Wood a risk. However, the minor league track record is good. If Wood can get a rotation spot then he could be a real bargain at under $10-12 in auction leagues.
