Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Carlos Santana had one of those injuries last year where the whole team gathered around him at home plate including the outfielders in the middle of the inning. It was very ugly, but Santana's recovery time is four to six months which would put him ready for action sometime between December and February. In other words, he should be ready for Opening Day.
Of course, whenever a catcher has major knee surgery there are even greater risks for re-injury. The fact that Santana is only 24 is a plus, but it also means the Indians will use greater caution, so who knows how many games he will sit as a result of the franchise protecting its most valuable asset.
Projection: Santana might be the 2nd best catcher in the American League.
